Associate in Arts Teacher Preparation (AATP) Degree (A1010T)

Program Description

The Associate in Arts Teacher Preparation (AATP) prepares students who plan to transfer to a four-year university, major in Education and move into public teaching either as an elementary or middle school teacher. The AATP is specifically for students interested in teaching in fields related to the Social Sciences and Humanities. The degree consists of 60 semester hours of credit (SHC) of college transfer courses. Students in this program develop a broad liberal arts foundation in writing, math, science, humanities, and social sciences. They also complete field-specific training through a set of foundational Education courses. The Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation is approved for transfer to all UNC System universities that have an undergraduate education major and independent colleges and universities that are signatories to the NCICU Associate in Arts and Associate in Science for Teacher Preparation Uniform Articulation Agreement.

Community college graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale in order to transfer with a junior status.

 

  • ICAA with constituent institutions that operate a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Education program
  • UAA with constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina that operate a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Education program

An additional 14 hours should be selected from courses classified as general educationwithin the CAA. Students must meet the receiving university’s foreign language and/or health and physical education requirements, ifapplicable, prior to or after transfer to the senior institution.
